WHY GET AN INTERPRETER’S CERTIFICATE?

To work at Sierra and any well respected interpreting agency, it is necessary to obtain a certification or qualification by a qualified institution. While certification does not guarantee a job, it will distinguish you from a large number of candidates boasting uneven degrees of training and competency. Obtaining a specialized interpreting certification for legal or healthcare interpreting is highly recommended as well. While learning specific terminology is more challenging, it will also improve your opportunities of getting hired and joining an elite rank of professionals. Remember, it is not the same to participate in an informal bilingual conversation between friends, than to be at a doctor´s office with patients looking at you to provide life-altering news. This is not a situation where you can easily stop and look for an unfamiliar term.

BENEFITS OF HEALTCARE INTERPRETING CERTIFICATION

In a global world, where technology has blurred borders, the only apparent barrier between people is still language. Ironically, tech tools such as online translators and automated voice interpreting devices have come short of expectations.

The corporate, legal and health industries have realized the significant benefits of working with trained and qualified interpreters in any situation where communication between speakers of different languages is needed. These benefits include improved results, decreased liabilities, higher satisfaction rates and smoother transactions.

MORE THAN BEING BILINGUAL

Here at our Sierra Interpreting San Diego headquarters, we often receive calls from bilingual individuals, who are interested in joining our team of interpreters. But it takes more than speaking a language to become a professional interpreter. Professional translation and interpreting are complex tasks, requiring a specialized skillset and training. A profound knowledge of the speaker´s culture and of local terminology is also needed for effective trans-language communication. It is our job to convey the importance of certification to anyone interested in becoming a professional translator or interpreter.

WHY DO HOSPITALS, INTERPRETING AGENCIES, CORPORATION AND LEGAL ENTITIES REQUIERE CERTIFIED INTERPRETERS?

The use of certified and qualified interpreters has brought a measure of consistency, reliability and competency to the ranks of hired linguistic professionals. The benefits of working with trained and certified personnel permeate all areas of an industry.

To get certified we recommend the Southern California School of Interpretation.
